FCC Documents for Google’s Pixel Buds Surface, Manufacturer Revealed

The FCC certification papers for the Pixel 2 had been discovered before the device was even unveiled, but that didn’t happen for all of the hardware the company launched earlier this month. One such accessory that didn’t have many leaks around it were the Pixel Buds, but now their FCC documents have been found. These documents sometimes reveal some missing details and one such detail that was revealed here is who is actually manufacturing them.

Google has gotten serious about hardware over the last couple of years but that doesn’t mean the company has a manufacturing arm yet. Even with the deal they made with HTC recently, this was all about talent and use of IP rights with no ownership of HTC’s manufacturing division changing hands. Google does feel that it’s the software behind the hardware that they should be focusing on and so far it has been shown to benefit them with the results of things such as their camera quality.

So with the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, we already knew that it was HTC manufacturing the smaller of the two while LG manufactured the larger phone. But Google’s recently hardware launch event included a lot more than just two new phones and there wasn’t any reason to believe that HTC or LG were manufacturing the other products. So now, the FCC documents for the new Bluetooth wireless Pixel Buds has been discovered and we’ve learned the manufacturer here is GoerTek Electronics Co., Ltd.

The Wiki page for them is pretty bare, but we can see they are a Chinese acoustic components company whose global headquarters are in Weifang. Reddit user u/SocraticBliss found these FCC documents for the Google Pixel Buds when they were looking into PlayStation headsets. So it seems that GoerTek Electronics makes audio products for a number of devices.
