During the past couple of years, Huawei has become increasingly better when it comes to software updates. And that couldn’t be truer from their sub brand, Honor. But this year, they seem to be looking to outdo themselves. After rolling out Nougat (EMUI 5.0) for their device lineup slightly ahead of the competition, they are now aiming for a better timeframe. Honor just announced that both the Honor 6X and the Honor 8 Pro would be getting an upgrade to Android 8.0 Oreo before the end of 2017.
Some days ago, the Honor India subsidiary held a meet up with fans and customers at Delhi, right after doing similar ones at Mumbai and Chennai. The main purpose of said meet up was to allow customers to share their feedback directly with Huawei representatives. Fans also shared their own views, opinions, and even shared suggestions. The Honor team took notes of everything, including suggestions like double tap to wake, beauty mode tweaks and reduced charging time. According to our forums, they also took advantage of the moment in order to announce the Android Oreo ETA for the Honor 6X and the Honor 8 Pro.

While the Honor 8 Pro was confirmed to be receiving Oreo in Q4 2017, the Honor 6X will probably take a bit longer, being pushed around Q4 2017 and Q1 2018. Still, it’s way ahead of what other manufacturers are doing. With the announcement, Huawei/Honor became one of the first OEMs to actually put out a release time frame/ETA. It’s still unknown which version of EMUI will follow with Android 8.0 Oreo, but we should expect it to be the same or to progress to EMUI 5.1. The Honor team is currently on a tour throughout India, receiving customer feedback from many cities in order to improve their software for the better. More recently, they’ve visited Bangalore, and more cities are planned during the following days. If you’re in India and you’d like to attend one of these meetups, keep an eye on our Honor forums!
