Media players such as the popular MX Player have been unable to use the AC-3 audio codec due to Dolby’s patents on the codec. However, these patents expired on March 20th, 2017, so now all media players are able to freely use the codec. Hence, MX Player has just now announced that their media player will officially support the codec!
