One of the predominant themes in phone launches in 2016 so far is the existence of multiple variations of the same phone, launched at the same time. These tiers of devices often go by adding a “Plus” to their name, but can extend to “Premium” and “Pro” as well.
The trend in Android started off with OEMs differing the variants with CPU clock speed, and marginal amounts of RAM and storage. But as we inch towards the second half of 2016, OEMs are adding features over and above the base variants, or stripping down the base variant at the expense of differentiation depending on your point of view. So we ask:
What do you think about phone tiers? Do you think manufacturers are watering down the base variants of the device in favor of their Plus brethren? Or do you believe that more choice is always needed within the same phone?
