Pretty much useless to me
Living in the UK and working for a tech company at the same time has one drawback and that is the plug we use, the three rectangular pronged plug is designed to be the safest in the world. The pins are each coated with insulation until the midway point meaning you can’t shock yourself if you touch them while removing it from the wall. The third pin is longer than the others and works as a key, opening covers on the other two meaning a child (or adult) can’t accidently stick something in to a socket and shock themselves. Thanks to a copper shortage during World War Two most plugs now also come with a fuse that can be switched out in the event of a power surge etc. Even the internal wiring is designed so that in the event the cable is pulled from the casing the live and neutral wires become disconnected before the grounding wire.
But then there are two caveats, firstly while the rest of the world has only to worry about the crippling agony of stepping on a lego block, the UK has the danger of stepping on plugs as well, which are far more likely to rest pins upward than most international alternatives. And the second caveat is that since the UK and the other countries that use type-G plugs (think: Ireland, Cyprus, Malta, Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong etc) are few and far between many companies forego the Type G plug all together and ship with a Chinese, Northern American or European alternatives. I’m by no means saying it is a huge issue for me or complaining. In a country where Amazon one hour delivery is rapidly spreading I can buy adaptors as needed, unfortunately, these are usually poorly constructed, low amperage and add quite a bit of bulk to our already large plugs.

The three port unit comes with a black matte finish and is sturdy to the touch, there is no give or flex when pressed and has taken a few knocks in my bag over the last week without any visible scratches or other damage. The five port charger has the same matte finish on the top and bottom of the unit, however, the sides use a smooth shiny finish, this unit also has a solid feel to it. The 5-port option ships with a detachable cable that measures at about 2 and a half feet, the main part of the unit measures at a just slightly larger than palm sized 3.7″ x 2.36″ x 0.98″ and weighs in at 1.5 pounds. The smaller 3 port option plugs directly into a socket, measuring at 2.76″ x 1.89″ x 1.02″ and weighs just 3.17 ounces. Both come with a nice thick 3.3 foot QC 3.0 compatible micro USB cable, that feels very durable even if it does retain some of its curves and bends after straightening out.
Each has one Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 port at 3A. The remaining ports are all AIPower ports which are designed to detect the maximum safe recharge rate up to 2.4A meaning your devices should charge as fast as possible. Of course, if you were hoping to fully utilise the QC 3.0 port it is worth noting that currently, the only devices to support the technology are the HTC A9, HTC 10, LG G5, Xiaomi Mi 5, LeTV Le Max Pro and the General Mobile GM 5+. Another gentle reminder is likely warranted at this stage that the S7 does not support QC3, for reasons known only to themselves. However, Qualcomm’s quick charge is backwards compatible meaning any older QC devices out there can still be charged at their optimal speed.

Do I recommend them? Well, that entirely depends on your intended use case. If you have a lot of gadgets they can be invaluable as I found out, they have both slotted into my daily routine perfectly, with the 3 port living by my bed and charging my watch, phone and ecig overnight and the 5 port sitting on my desk and handling everything else I could want charging at once. If on the other hand you don’t have quite as many gadgets you may be better off using your OEM chargers or choosing a 1 or 2 port option.
