Are Cheaper VR Viewers Worth it? We Investigate

s-l1000

For those of us not able or unwilling to purchase a premium VR headset for any number of reasons there are still multiple options available to us. These are usually in the form of Google Cardboard devices, starting with the promotional headsets commonly found at events, conferences and increasingly frequent with a wide variety of other consumer products including Coca-Cola and even McDonalds’ Happy Meals.

These low-cost cardboard models are an excellent way of getting started with VR and come with everything you need to use basic VR apps and watch youtube 360° videos. The unfortunate pitfalls of these are durability, the lack of head strap and limited compatibility when it comes to larger or small devices. Considering these are frequently free or just a few dollars these are obviously forgivable as they are not intended to offer the level of support given with the mid range and high end viewers.
