Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge Now Receiving Android 5.1.1

The Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, arguably Android’s most popular flagships so far this year, have now begun to receive their much anticipated updates to Android 5.1.1. This update comes courtesy of T-Mobile in the US, although now that the ball has begun rolling, other carriers will be eager to push their own customized updates.

Apart from the slew of minor fixes that Google implemented with this version of Android, Samsung has of course added its own changes on top, with options to clean the notification shade now present, along with the usual OEM “performance improvements” tagline. More notably, Samsung has chosen to add a redesigned set of exposure controls within the camera app, and a new wallpaper parallax effect a la iOS7.

However, one thing that isn’t clear is whether this update will fix the memory handling issues that have been affecting this otherwise strongly performing device. Many users have reported this issue across our forums at xda, noticing launcher re-draws and apps needing to reload after being removed from memory, to the result that a potential fix has been discovered. If the new update hasn’t fixed this important issue, S6 and Edge users can always take matters into their own hands this way, although they will need to be rooted already.
