Huawei Launches its Own Virtual Reality Headset: Huawei VR

After smartphones, tablets and smartwatches, Virtual Reality seems to be the next big thing. The VR space is recently getting a lot of attention, with all prominent players announcing their involvement in one form or the other.

You have HTC’s Vive, Facebook’s Oculus Rift, Samsung’s Gear VR, Google’s simplistic take with Google Cardboard and even XDA’s collaboration with IonVR —  things are getting pretty hot in here.

To add to the crowd, Huawei has also announced its own take on Virtual Reality with Huawei VR. Huawei VR is a mobile VR solution, competing against the likes of Samsung’s Gear VR. And it’s design also seemingly takes cues from Samsung’s implementation. What you get is a headset with a visor like appearance, with the front cover popping off to let you place your smartphone in place. There’s a touch panel and some hardware keys on the headset as well.

Huawei VR comes in three variants to allow you to experience Virtual Reality on its recent devices: the P9 flagships and the Mate 8. To separate itself from the crowd, Huawei VR is also claiming to be the first VR solution to offer a 360-degree sound field. This of course, needs supported content and headphones as well.

To get users onboard their VR platform instead of the competition, Huawei is offering 4,000 free movies and over 40 free games, although it is not mentioned how many of these would be for the VR experience. Along with these, they will also offer 350 panoramic images and 150 panoramic tours with Huawei VR.

Pricing and date for the Huawei VR was not revealed, but pricing should be inline with the competition. Afterall, they do have a lot of competition, and it is only bound to increase as Virtual Reality content increases.
